Indie nail polish is a unique corner of the nail world, created by independent, artisan makers often small businesses run by one person or a small team. These makers handcraft their polishes in small batches, blending pigments, glitters, and specialty ingredients to bring creative, one-of-a-kind shades to life. Unlike mainstream brands, indie polish makers have the freedom to experiment and innovate, meaning you'll often find colours, finishes, and effects that are totally exclusive and ahead of the trends. Many indie brands also offer custom creations, allowing you to collaborate directly with the maker—something you won’t see with commercial nail polish lines. Because of the handcrafted nature of indie polish, application can sometimes take a bit more care to achieve the best results. We recommend applying at least 2 thin coats to build depth and maximise glitter or shimmer payoff. Some polishes (especially glitter toppers or sheer styles) work best layered over a base colour—commonly called “undies” in the nail world. To get the most out of your indie polish, a good-quality base coat and topcoat are essential for lasting wear and shine—and don’t forget to 'wrap your tips' for extra staying power!
